Long-Arm Machine Quilting Services!
The Aiken Quilt Shoppe is excited to offer long-arm machine quilting services to our customers. All quilting is done on site at the Aiken Quilt Shoppe using the APQS Long Arm Quilting System! Edge-to-edge designs are carefully sewn into your quilt using a pantograph pattern of your choosing. Superior Thread "So Fine" thread is used on the top and in the bobbin in your choice of color(s). Finishing services, such as trimming and binding, are also available to our customers.
Preparation
Please call the Aiken Quilt Shoppe to discuss your quilting needs and make an appointment to bring in your project for quilting. There are a few things that you need to do to prepare your project.
1. Iron your quilt top, and clip any stray threads on the back side of the quilt top so they won't show through. If your pieced top is an older specimen, inspect the top carefully. Repair any seams that may have come "unglued." If there are any rips or small holes in the fabric(s), take a small piece of light/feather-weight fusible web and fuse it to the rip or hole on the wrong side of the fabric. This will stabilize the pieced top to properly accept the quilting and ensure a perfect quilting job.
2. Prepare your backing fabric. The backing fabric needs to be 8" longer and 8" wider than the quilt top. This will provide the fabric width needed to secure the backing fabric to the canvas leaders of the long arm. If you need to piece two or more fabrics together please use a 1/2" seam and press the seam to the side. If you are piecing along the salvage edge of the fabrics, trim the salvage edges from the fabric. Press the seam to one side. Make sure your backing fabric has been fully pressed.
3. Batting should be larger on all four sides than your quilt top. If you put your batting in your dryer for a few minutes on a light heat, it will remove all of the fold marks in the batting and leave it soft and smooth. AQS carries Quilter's Dream Batting, 100% cotton, mid-loft weight, in all sizes, and it is recommended for all quilting jobs.
4. Bring the three pieces - the quilt top, the backing, and the batting - folded separately - to the shop for drop-off. You do not have to assemble the pieces prior to delivery - that will be done on the machine!!
Pantographs
AQS has an assortment of pantograph patterns for you to choose from. If you find a pantograph pattern that you would like to use on your quilt, you are welcomed to bring that pantograph with you.
Trimming
After your project has been completed, AQS has the equipment and the table space to easily trim your quilt so it is ready to accept the binding.
Binding
We will be happy to prepare and apply a binding to your quilt, machine stitched from the front of the quilt and hand stitched to the back of your quilt, with perfectly mitered borders and full and plump binding edges.
Sleeves
A sleeve can be added to your quilt so that you can hang the quilt on your wall. The sleeve is 4-1/2" deep, and covers the width of your quilt to give total support to your quilt so that it hangs beautifully.
